If legend is to be believed, then it was here that Arjuna shot an arrow into the earth and a spring was formed that ultimately satiated the thirst of Bhishma Pitamah who was a great soldier and was injured fighting in the battle of Mahabharata, and it is here that a lake was created. Banganga Fair of Jaipur is celebrated with lot of zeal and gusto by the local people and is of great reverence for them.

The Banganga Fair is held every year on Vaishakh Purnima (the full-moon day in the Hindu calendar) that usually falls in the month of May. During the fair, thousands of devotees assemble near Radha Krishnaji temple in Bairath, which is approximately 85 kms away from Jaipur. These devotees are engaged in various rituals and blessings. The Banganga Fair is significant for Hindu devotees because it is believed that bathing in the holy waters of Banganga purifies their soul. Besides celebrating these rituals in the religious temple, merchandisers also come from different communities to sell their hawking articles, wares, simple rural ornaments, household items and toys. Buying and selling of articles adds to the hustle-bustle of the Banganga Fair. Children and adults can easily and readily enjoy giant wheels and merry-go-rounds.

The devotees all gather at the temple of Lord Krishna in the morning. After that, they take a holy dip in the Banganga River. People are of the view that taking a bath at the river would wash away the misdeeds of the people and thereby purify the soul of then person. After this they also pay a visit to the temple of Ganga Bihari and Hanuman and also to the Shiva temple and the Goswamiji Math. Banganga is located in Bairath which is adjacent to Jaipur and can be reached conveniently by taking the road transport which is easily available.
